KEY BRANDS I’VE WORKED WITH
DESIGN PRACTICE
I’m Galen Armstrong, a senior apparel designer specializing in outerwear, performance gear, and functional denim.
With over 25 years of experience across brands like Arc’teryx, The North Face, DU/ER, and First Lite, I combine hands-on craftsmanship with technical precision — bringing apparel from concept to fully validated prototype.
My work bridges engineering and design, creating garments that perform in the most demanding environments while connecting to cultural and aesthetic relevance.
Whether leading innovation teams or building samples at my own bench, I approach every project the same way: build first, test early, and refine fast.
Great design isn’t finished when it’s sketched.
IT’S finished when it’s proven.
I believe the most efficient way to design is to to prototype early — solving fit, function, and construction issues before they become factory problems.
This method reduces development time, eliminates costly sampling rounds, and produces products that perform right the first time.
My process integrates concept creation, pattern engineering, and in-fabric validation — allowing me to bridge the gap between creative direction and technical precision.
CAREER HIGHLIGHTS
Experience Spanning Mountains, Cities, and Factory Floors.
Across 25 years in the industry, I’ve worked with global brands and high-performance teams to build products that blend technical function and cultural relevance.
From expedition-grade insulation systems to everyday denim engineered for movement and lifestyle denim featured in popular media, each project is rooted in real-world validation and commercial results.
